Where to Eat Wild BC Salmon This Summer

Summer and Wild BC Salmon just belong together. From family dinners on the coast to nights out with friends, wild salmon has long been part of what makes a BC summer special. This year, there's even more reason to celebrate. Forecasts are calling for the largest Fraser River sockeye return since 2018, making it what we're calling the Summer of Sockeye.

While we celebrate all five species of Wild BC Salmon, this season is shaping up to be a memorable one for sockeye lovers. Participating restaurants across BC are featuring fresh Wild BC Salmon dishes (see below) inspired by the waters, people, and communities that make our coast unique. Why This Summer Is Special

The 2026 Wild BC Salmon season got underway on June 9th with the first commercial sockeye opening in Barkley Sound on Vancouver Island's west coast. Many of the salmon now appearing on restaurant menus were harvested during these early openings, bringing fresh, wild-caught BC salmon from the boat to the plate.

This year is shaping up to be one of the most exciting salmon seasons in recent memory, with forecasts calling for the strongest Fraser River sockeye return since 2018. Combined with increased summer tourism and FIFA World Cup visitors, demand for Wild BC Salmon is already creating a buzz across the province.
