Gillnetting Each method requires different types of gear and boats. Seiners catch about 50% of all wild salmon in BC, while Trolling and Gillnetting produce about 25% each, with Troll having a slight edge Gill. Each method also has a different impact on the condition of the fish. Trolling subjects the salmon to the least amount of handling and stress. All of these methods spread some sort of net or line out in the water behind or adjacent to the fishing boat. Nets and lines can extend out up to 600 meters from the boat.
